Chandigarh & Punjab State Branch
NAB Institute for the Blind and an Eye Care Centre
NAB in its sixth year of integrated education for the visually challenged has on its rolls 44 students who are being taught through 5 special education teachers in different schools in Chandigarh. Our children study with normal students in regular schools and our resource teachers help the teachers as well as the students in their learning process. The support of Caring Hands for Children is available in providing education to these children.
A person who loses the most precious gift of God—sight—often faces immense frustration and emotional challenges. Such individuals require proper counseling, guidance, and training to regain their confidence and adapt to a new way of life. Keeping this in mind, NAB Chandigarh has taken up this challenging yet rewarding training program aimed at empowering and rehabilitating this underprivileged section of society.
Through this initiative, NAB Chandigarh provides comprehensive support to ensure socio-economic rehabilitation, helping individuals with visual impairments lead independent and fulfilling lives. Our program focuses on building confidence, fostering self-reliance, and enabling them to become active and valued members of society.
As part of our ongoing Prevention and Cure Program for Eye Ailments, the National Association for the Blind, Chandigarh, and Punjab regularly conducts eye screening camps across Chandigarh, Mohali, and adjoining areas. These camps aim to identify individuals — including children — who require specialized eye care and timely medical attention.
Children diagnosed with low vision during these screenings are seamlessly integrated into NAB’s inclusive education and skill training programs, ensuring they receive not only medical support but also the educational and vocational opportunities needed for a brighter, independent future.
To correct refractive errors, free spectacles are provided to all needy beneficiaries. Over the past two years, we have successfully organized more than 30 eye screening camps, benefiting thousands of individuals and distributed free spectacles to underprivileged persons.
At NAB Chandigarh, we are dedicated to improving the vision and quality of life for individuals facing financial barriers to eye care. Our Free Distribution of Spectacles program is designed to provide free spectacles to those in need, ensuring that vision impairment does not hinder their daily activities, education, or employment opportunities. The Free Distribution of Spectacles program at NAB Chandigarh is part of our ongoing efforts to promote eye health and provide essential services to underserved communities. Join us in helping individuals regain clarity and confidence through better vision.
Through Free Eye camps, we focus on early detection, diagnosis, and intervention to prevent avoidable blindness and manage vision-related disabilities effectively. We also conduct special school-based eye camps to identify children with vision impairments and provide on-the-spot corrective measures such as free prescription glasses. For cases with more serious eye conditions, timely referrals and early intervention are ensured to prevent further vision loss.
Beyond medical support, NAB extends holistic assistance by facilitating essential documentation and government benefits such as medical certificates, UDID cards, Aadhaar registration, disability pensions, and other entitlements for persons with disabilities identified through these camps.
Our commitment is to ensure that no individual is deprived of vision care due to financial or social barriers, and that every person identified receives the support, dignity, and opportunities they deserve.
