What we do?

The National Association for the Blind (NAB), established in 1952, is India’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to the empowerment of the visually impaired. With 28 State Branches and 11 specialized institutions, NAB has been a pioneer in promoting education, training, and inclusion for persons with disabilities across the nation.

The Chandigarh and Punjab State Branch, registered in 1990, proudly carries forward this legacy. Through our centres in Chandigarh, Mohali, and Ludhiana, we empower individuals with visual, intellectual, and multiple disabilities by providing opportunities for inclusive education, skill development, rehabilitation, and advocacy.
Our mission is to build a society where every person with a disability lives with dignity, independence, and equal opportunity — transforming challenges into possibilities.

Education

At NAB, we believe that education is the foundation of empowerment. Our inclusive and special education programs ensure that children and youth with visual and other disabilities learn alongside their peers in mainstream schools and at the NAB Institutes for the Blind in Chandigarh and Mohali.

We provide Braille books, large-print and audio learning materials, assistive technologies, and individualized academic support to make education truly accessible. Beyond academics, we nurture confidence, communication, and life skills, enabling each learner to dream beyond limitations.
Through our educational initiatives, NAB is lighting the path toward a brighter, self-reliant, and inclusive future for every child we serve.

Training

NAB is deeply committed to transforming ability into employability. Our training programs equip persons with visual and multiple disabilities with market-relevant vocational and digital skills such as computer literacy, data entry operations, and assistive technology use.

We also focus on life skills, orientation and mobility, communication, and personality development — helping trainees gain confidence and independence in all spheres of life. Each program is customized to individual strengths and goals, ensuring holistic growth and meaningful employment opportunities.

At NAB, training is not just about learning a skill — it’s about unlocking potential, fostering independence, and restoring dignity through sustainable livelihoods.

Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation lies at the heart of NAB’s mission to help persons with visual and multiple disabilities lead fulfilling and independent lives. Our holistic rehabilitation services include orientation and mobility training, daily living skills development, counselling, physiotherapy, and assistive device support.

We take a personalized approach—understanding the unique physical, emotional, and social needs of each individual to help them rebuild confidence and self-reliance.

Over the past two decades, NAB has successfully trained and placed more than 300 visually impaired individuals in diverse professions across sectors, enabling them to live with dignity, pride, and purpose.

Through our comprehensive rehabilitation programs, we continue to create a world where every individual, regardless of disability, can thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.

Inclusion

At the National Association for the Blind (NAB), Chandigarh and Punjab, inclusion is not just a goal — it is our guiding principle. We strive to create an environment where persons with visual, intellectual, and multiple disabilities can learn, work, and live with dignity and equal opportunity.

Through our inclusive education programs, internship training, and awareness initiatives, we promote understanding, accessibility, and acceptance in schools, workplaces, and communities. NAB works hand in hand with educators, employers, and families to break barriers and build a society where every individual is valued for their abilities, not defined by their disability.

For us, inclusion means empowerment — ensuring that everyone has the chance to participate, contribute, and thrive.
